TFI Come & See: Training for New Fellows Programs
About the Training Course
In 2006, the year TFI was launched, there were just five fellows programs. Today, there are many programs and the movement is spreading across the United States. Our mission is to continue expanding the fellows phenomenon to new churches and new cities. If you are interested in forming a new fellows program, a great way to learn more is by attending one of our introductory events called Come & See.
The Come & See training program will explain the model and structure of a fellows program, approaches to teaching and discipleship, internship and housing strategies, staffing, recruitment, financials and all of the other aspects of running a program. The Come & See is intended to be an introduction to the fellows concept and also a significant step in the discernment process.

March 24 - 25 Program (Online)
The online Come & See program covers the same information as the in-person program, but it is structured differently to accommodate online learning. The program consists of four online sessions. These are live (not recorded) sessions with our instructors. Sessions 1 and 2 are on the first day and are from 930a - 1130a and from 2p - 4p respectively (Eastern time). Sessions 3 and 4 are on the second day and are from 930a - 1130a and from 2p - 4p respectively (Eastern time).
The TFI Come & See is intended to help you understand all of the major components of a fellows program. This is an ideal training program for churches that are deciding whether or not to launch a fellows program. It is also ideal for churches that have already decided to launch a program, but are still working through details of what is required to get it started. Basically, we strongly encourage every group thinking about starting, or preparing to start, a fellows program to attend this training program. The program includes four in-depth workshops as well as lectures/discussion on the following topics:
The Foundations of Fellows
Getting Ready to Launch (including a Readiness Assessment Workshop)
Program Strategy and Structure (including a Program Vision Workshop)
The Essential Elements of a Fellows Program
The Program Calendar (including a Timeline Planning Workshop)
Administration and Finance (including an in-depth Budgeting Workshop)
Recruiting and Admissions
Pastoral Care and Mentoring
Lodging and Meals (In-Person Program Only)
Meals are included with your program fee, but lodging is not provided. The meals include lunch and dinner the first day, and breakfast and lunch the second day. There are several hotels in the McLean/Tysons Corner/Falls Church area of Northern Virginia and prices vary quite a lot. A list of hotels near the venue will be provided in your registration confirmation email. We've tried to select a range of hotel brands, distances and prices. Feel free to contact us if you need more information about hotels in the area.
Who Should Attend?
The TFI Come & See is an important learning opportunity for anyone thinking about launching a fellows program. It is also an important learning opportunity for those that have decided to launch a program in the TFI network. So, we encourage pastors and lay leaders from the church as well as local business leaders to attend.
Can't Make It? We Will Come to You
If you are unable to attend one of the scheduled Come & See training events, or have too large of a group to cost-effectively travel to Washington, D.C., we also offer an on-site version of the TFI Come & See training course. We will work with you to schedule a time and to customize the content for your community. Please contact us to learn more about hosting a Come & See in your city.
What Others Are Saying
The Come & See training was rocket-fuel for our discernment process!
-- David Frerichs, Director of Fourth Fellows, Bethesda, MD
We found the Come and See helpful for better understanding the Fellows concept and how it’s being applied in a variety of cities and contexts. We loved meeting current directors as well as the leadership of prospective programs. The connections we made have been invaluable as we’ve built our program this year, and I expect will be for years to come. John, Morna and Dennis did an excellent job of leading the time and making it worth our while! We recommend it highly to anyone else considering a fellows program for their church or area.
-- Jay McCabe and Ross Byrd, Virginia Beach Fellows Co-Directors
We came to the ‘Come and See’ weekend with the basics of our program in place, but this weekend showed us we had a lot of blindspots. It’s hard to overstate the value that the experienced leaders at TFI bring to table and all the resources they are willing to share so you aren’t reinventing the wheel as you build your own unique program.
-- Jennifer Redd, Assistant Director of Fourth Fellows, Bethesda, MD
