Healthy Life Rhythms

Establishing healthy rhythms as a young adult is daunting to tackle alone. The transition to the work world is one of life’s more difficult journeys. We are eager to walk beside you for nine months, assisting you in navigating work, church, mission, recreation, friendships, serving others, and Sabbath rest all while living in rural, western Pennsylvania.

The Laurel Highlands

Situated in the Laurel Highlands, the Highlands Fellows will enjoy a region known for great outdoor recreation and the tremendous natural beauty of mountains, hills, rivers, streams, farms, and all four seasons. Fellows will learn to lead others and play in this God-created classroom and playground. Whether whitewater boating on the world-class Yough river, skiing one of three Epic (Vail-owned) resorts, biking on a myriad of mountain bike trails, or hunting Penn’s woods, fishing its streams, climbing its rocks, farming its land, hiking its trails, tapping its maple trees, or just enjoying a gorgeous sunrise or sunset atop the Laurel Ridge, fellows will love this special place and our unique integrated approach to outdoor education and recreation.

St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church and Highland Farm

Fellows will also love the people of St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church. Our multi-generational family atmosphere affords everyone the opportunity to deepen relationship with one another and the Lord Jesus as they serve his kingdom purposes together. Behind the church is picturesque Highland Farm, our regenerative farming initiative where fellows will get their hands dirty weekly, as well as enjoy the fruits of their labor as they gather for dinners around the farmhouse table.

Spiritual Growth, Life-long Learning, and Adventure

Growing an appetite for life-long learning is a significant part of the adventure here at Highlands Fellows. We want to help you integrate your faith into all of life. Learn with us what it means to live missionally in a rural, smalltown setting—loving the land and its people. This growth will happen as fellows build new and lasting friendships with people of all ages inside and outside the church and as they begin their vocational journey in our community.

What makes Highlands Fellows unique?

• A slower pace and a small town/rural place to explore vocation and life.

• A community and church where the trades are highly valued (talk to us about opportunities to use or develop a vocational trade). There are also plenty of other great vocational opportunities (engineering, business, medicine, etc.) here in the Laurel Highlands.

• A regenerative farming experience at Highland Farm.

• An integrated outdoor education and recreation curriculum.

• The Laurel Highlands has 118 downhill ski slopes, 8 State parks, 2 state forests, over 700 miles of hiking and biking trails, the 70-mile (LHHT) backpacking trail, 73 miles of whitewater, 247 miles of Class A Trout streams, over 100 square miles of public game lands for hunting, and endless opportunities for outdoor adventures.
