Iron City Fellows

Birmingham, Alabama

Program Description

The Iron City Fellows Program is a nine-month leadership training program designed to help recent college graduates transition from life as a student to life as a professional with a concentrated focus on faithfulness in all aspects of life. Our program is built around six key components: live, work, study, serve, worship, and rest. The participants of this program will move to Birmingham, Alabama, and spend August-May in a cohort of like-minded peers. They will live with host families from Covenant Presbyterian Church and will also be paired with a mentor to walk alongside them throughout this experience. Each week, they will meet as a fellows’ class, enjoy dinner together, and engage in a roundtable discussion. Fellows will take turns practicing hospitality by preparing the meal and hosting their classmates. They will work Monday-Thursday in paid internships aligned with their field of study and/or interests. Outside of work, they will spend time worshipping and serving at Covenant as well as volunteering in the Birmingham community. Fellows will have the opportunity to continue their studies both by taking classes each semester and diving into God’s word through Bible studies. There will be a number of retreats planned over the course of the nine months to connect with each other, connect with other fellows’ programs, and connect with God. Finally, we hope to instill a deep appreciation for Sabbath rest. We live in a busy world that glorifies hurry. We will challenge our fellows to create space for rest and make a practice of it. Our hope is that at the conclusion of the program our graduates will leave with a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ, an understanding of why their work matters, and a love for their city, church, and community that will leave an eternal impact.
