Peninsula Fellows

Yorktown, Virginia

Program Description

Peninsula Fellows offers both ecclesial and marketplace internship options. It seeks to equip men and women for ministerial vocations and to transform the marketplace by helping new college graduates connect their professional work to the eternal work of God. Our Fellows develop professionally through part-time work in their area of interest. They serve strategically in both the church and the local community. They grow spiritually through graduate-level study accredited by Reformed Theological Seminary, conferences in places like Washington, D.C. and New York City that stretch them to embrace new engagement with issues of justice and the arts, and spiritual formation groups that meet weekly for study, prayer and nurture. They bond socially by living with local families and doing life together as a cohort.

Peninsula Fellows is based in Yorktown, Virginia, part of the historic triangle of Jamestown, Williamsburg and Yorktown. Known for its beautiful waterways, the Peninsula region of Virginia is also a business and research hub. It is the home of the Thomas Jefferson Nuclear Accelerator Facility and NASA Langley Research Center. Canon, Alion Science and Technology, Triumph Aerospace Systems, and C2 Technologies are but a few of the high-tech companies located here. The largest employers on the Peninsula include Canon, Newport News Shipbuilding, where America's aircraft carriers are built, Riverside Health Systems and the U.S. Department of Defense. The economy is balanced between manufacturing, defense, research, technology, healthcare, finance and office-based industries. Newport News, the largest city on the Peninsula, is home to four world-class performing arts venues, six top-rated museums and ten award-winning seafood restaurants. Christopher Newport University and Thomas Nelson Community College are located at the heart of the Peninsula with the College of William and Mary just down the road. The world-class surf and beaches of Virginia Beach and the Outer Banks of North Carolina beckon from just a short drive away.

Peninsula Community Chapel is a thriving interdenominational church of evangelical conviction. Founded in 1983, the church is in the very geographic center of the Peninsula. It is known for its strong teaching ministry, expansive global ministry and intensive work with refugees. A healthy mix of NASA scientists, Air Force fighter pilots, area college students, local business professionals and shipbuilders make up the congregation.
