Memphis Fellows at Second Presbyterian Church
During the nine months of the Memphis Fellows program our Fellows learn and study what the Bible has to say about our mission as followers of Christ. Each fellow is placed in a paid work placement, lives with a host family, has a mentor, does volunteer work weekly in the community, and take two biblical courses. One course is an introduction study of the Bible. The other course is a Christian Worldview course. It examines how art, music, politics, and life outside the church intersects with your faith. It is a packed year and one of the biggest gifts is the community of the Fellows family.
The setting of Memphis offers Fellows a unique opportunity for serving, engaging, and transforming the city for the gospel. Memphis has a long history of rich ethnic and cultural diversity. We are a diverse city that has dealt with its share of pain and brokenness. We want our Fellows to come to Memphis and become "Memphians" wanting to affect change here. Memphis is ripe with ministry opportunities and Second Presbyterian Church is actively involved in the Memphis community and encourages the Fellows to invest and engage along with them during their time here.
The city is also full of career opportunities. Memphis is home to several Fortune 500 corporations, including Autozone, FedEx, and International Paper. Memphis also boasts a top-notch medical community with leading institutions such as St. Jude Children's Hospital and Research Center. From an artistic standpoint, Memphis has long been hailed for its music heritage. The city is considered the home of the Blues and Rock & Roll, and the home to both B.B. King and Elvis Presley.
Ultimately, the goal of the Memphis Fellows program is to think and dream about how we the church, and the world might be radically changed by the Gospel of Christ, and to discover the role to which each has been uniquely called in light of such possibilities.
